Closed cell foam insulation has an R value of seven per inch. It is an air and moisture barrier. This means it will protect wood from rot and your home from pest and dust. Closed cell spray foam is typically applied in metal buildings or subfloors.
Open cell foam insulation carries an R value of roughly 3.6 per inch. It is an air barrier but not a moisture barrier. Open cell is typically applied in attics and walls. with many home we recommend attic insulation as the first step
Removal of the old insulation is encouraged. Removal does carry many benefits. the absence of insulation on the attic deck promotes air circulation through out the home. Removal conditions your home faster and provides cleaner air to your unit.
